Applications for Fleetguard coolants

  • Coolants provides freeze and boil-over protection
  • Appropriate coolant protects against deposits and scaling
  • Overcome cavitation corrosion and prevent foaming with correct coolant filtration
  • Coolants can prevent aluminium corrosion
  • Protecting engines from general corrosion is enhanced with use of coolants

Selecting the appropriate coolant:

  • Coolant classification: Never simply choose a coolant filtration type based on colour as the correct way of choosing your product. It is important to pay attention to the coolant classification to ensure you get the right coolant filtration for your requirements.
  • Coolant cost: Never forget that a coolant filtration product that appears to be less expensive is probably so only at purchase. For cheaper coolant filtration products, more maintenance may be required, resulting in increased costs over time.
  • OEM approval: it is important to make sure that your coolant filtration product or coolant is approved by the equipment and engine original equipment manufacturer (OEM) so you know the coolant chosen is compatible with all seal and hoses used in your specific cooling system.
  • Heavy-duty coolant standard: Certain standards must be met with this coolant filtration solution. Make sure that the coolant you select for heavy duty meets the 6210 standards, which ensures it meets the minimum requirements to protect engine liners from pitting corrosion.
  • The importance supplement coolant additives (SCA) cannot be undermined! SCAs are used to control corrosion, rust, scaling, oil fouling, liner pitting and cavitation erosion.

The necessity of coolants in filtration

Coolant filtration engine coolants have a simple role – to remove and transfer heat generated in an engine into the cooling system.

Coolant filtration is necessary as the coolant absorbs engine component heat and is then circulated through the cooling system.

Combustion in an engine can result in temperatures greater than 3 100 °C, with the cooling system and cooling filtration removing most of the heat.

As the function of a cooling system is to absorb unwanted engine heat, dissipate heat away from the engine and provide protection for components, the coolant in these systems circulate from 45 000 to 60 000 litres per hour, providing intense coolant filtration.

Only 35% of energy from combustion in an engine is useful! 33% is lost via the exhaust system and heat, and the remainder 32% is removed by coolant. This fact is indicative of how important coolant filtration is in a cooling system.

Fleetguard Master Dealer

HFT was appointed Master Dealer for Cummins Filtration’s range of Fleetguard engine products in South Africa in 2015.

The product range incorporates coolant filtration, fuel filtration; lube filtration; air filtration; crankcase ventilation; and hydraulic systems, ideal for mobile heavy-duty machinery.

Cummins Filtration opened a new filtration and coolant filtration manufacturing plant in Woodmead, Johannesburg, South Africa which includes Cummins Filtration’s component warehousing and local manufacturing facility. The manufacturing facility produces Fleetguard fuel and air filters, and with regards to coolant filtration, also produces Fleetguard Organic Acid Technology engine coolant.

Fleetguard is ranked as one of the top two global brands in the international filtration market!
