Two key characteristics of filter performance are capture efficiency and retention efficiency.

The Dynamic Filter Efficiency (DFE) test, a joint effort between Scientific Services Inc. and HY-PRO Filtration, is the evolution hydraulic and lube filter performance testing.

If not properly designed and applied, a filter can become one of the most damaging sources of contamination in a system. Hydraulic filters encounter frequent and rapid changes inflow rate accompanied by frequency changes, while lube filters typically experience dynamic conditions during start up and shut down.

It is therefore of utmost importance that capture efficiency and retention efficiency remain key characteristics.

DFE Testing

DFE testing, available from Hytec Fluid Technology (HFT), induces dynamic duty cycles and measures real-time performance before, during and after the cycles. It quantifies both capture and retention efficiency – in real time.

Capture Efficiency = how effectively a filter captures particles

Retention Efficiency = how effectively a filter retains the captured particles
