Bosch Rexroth Africa had recent success with a training course they offered to a Chinese delegation that spoke no English. The training course was a result of Bosch being acquisitioned by Afritop, Afritop, a distributor of mining machinery and equipment required hydraulics training and accreditation for a Chinese delegation commissioned by a mine to service mining equipment in Limpopo. Bosch provides a variety of MerSETA accredited courses.
While this service has been provided by the company for a long time with past courses having been offered in Portuguese and French, this training course proved itself a unique and new experience as none of the participants were English speaking, rendering a language gap and cultural differences unlike anything the company has dealt with before. Due to the language barrier, a translator was employed to help with the facilitation of the training,which took place at the Rexroth Hubb over a period of four days and was conducted by Group Training Manager, Allen Van Gent. Van Gent spoke fondly of the experience, “I was very impressed by the manner in which Afritop conducted themselves and the discipline of the learners, especially when it came to adaptation.”
The pass rate for the training was high, with the lowest and highest averages ranging between 70 % and 90 %. Each participant is now accredited with a qualification in hydraulics and is qualified to conduct the repair work required of them. These results left Afritop, and Bosch Rexroth satisfied. Van Gent notes that the delegation’s facilitator expressed his content with the programme and its outcomes.
Bosch Rexroth offers training in various languages across the country as well as across Africa, with courses being facilitated with the help of a translator when necessary and aspires towards similar success in the future.
