Tectra Automation develops sweet new cake cutting machine

The unique automated cake cutting system from Tectra Automation.

Tectra Automation engineered a unique cake cutting system for Brenell Quality Desserts in Pietermaritzburg. The previously manual cake cutting process has now been upgraded to a more productive, faster and precise automated system.

Tectra Automation and Ultrasonic Systems developed this turnkey solution using an ultrasonic, vibrating blade that vibrates 40 000 times per second to perfectly cut a whole cake in less than a minute.

Its design also meets the highest hygiene and safety standards of the food and beverage industry, with a range of features including activated live curtains for worker safety as well as a self-cleaning system that ensures the blade is cleaned after every cycle.

The machine uses Bosch Rexroth 4-axis linear motion products and aluminium profiles, pneumatic clamping systems from Aventics, and a Bosch Rexroth control system to achieve a fully automated and reliable system for the client.

“With Bosch Rexroth’s wide range of products and Tectra Automation’s collaboration with expert suppliers like Ultrasonic Systems, we are able to create a truly customised, turnkey solution, drawing on a bouquet of premium-quality international brands,” explains Nico Davies, Mechatronics Engineer at Tectra Automation. “Whatever our clients’ requirements for customised production machines, we have the technologies and industry know-how to bring innovative machine concepts to life, no matter the industry.”
