In our second TechTalk of 2020, Hydraulic & Automation Warehouse’s Neville Alberts and Mark Golombick discuss some of the products and innovations from its hose and fittings offerings.
Hose and fittings supplied by Hydraulic and Automation Warehouse (HAW), along with its onsite hose & fittings container service, are aimed at increasing onsite productivity and profitability. Stocking a complete match system of Italian-manufactured Intertraco hose, collars and fittings allows HAW to guarantee high quality stock manufactured by a single supplier, providing complete product traceability.
To ensure adequate onsite supply of all hoses and accessories, as well as provide an easily accessible service and repair offering, HAW offers its onsite containerised workshop and storage facility. Developed by fellow Group Company Bosch Rexroth Africa Development, the container workshop provides hose and fittings services and helps facilitate HAW’s entire range of hydraulic services on a mine or any other, site.

All Intertraco collars in the range can be used on multiple hoses. Examples are D22 collars, useable on both one- and two-wire braided hoses and D56 collars, ideal for both the 4SP and 4SH hoses, which are available in skive or non-skive versions.
“The same applies to our hose fittings,” Mark points. “There is one type of insert for both one- and two-wire hoses and a secondary insert for both 4SP and 4SH hoses. “This translates to less capital outlay for plants procuring their hose and fittings from HAW.”
Five fully stocked branches in Cape Town (Western Cape), Johannesburg (Gauteng), Middelburg (Mpumalanga), Port Elizabeth (Eastern Cape) and Pine Town (KwaZulu-Natal) ensure that HAW delivers all products and services with minimal lead time.
Measuring from 20 to 40 foot in size, a typical containerised workshop comprises a work bench, air conditioner and extractor fan, 3 phase 380 V power source, LED lighting and eight 10-tier adjustable shelves. Each workshop is fitted with a Uniflex UG32 crimper, cut-off machine, skiver, engraver and pallet cleaner.
Stock depends on site requirements, but typically includes one- and two-wire hose; four- and six-wire spiral hose; mining and air hose; fuel hose; collars and hose fittings; adaptors; and high and low pressure ball valves. A single container is used for repair services and administration, while additional containers for bulk product storage are supplied on request.
“All units, which are also ideal for remote locations, can be custom built to suit any specifications and shipped with or without stock,” Mark explains. “We set them up to suit specific client requirements and provide onsite training to ensure best in class service. All of this contributes to the increased productivity and less onsite downtime.”
