Diaphragm Accumulators

  • HYDAC diaphragm accumulators have a function- and weight-optimised design, unlimited choice of installation positions, there is no pressure differential between the fluid and gas sides and have a long service life requiring only low maintenance.
  • For Bosch Rexroth diaphragm accumulators the compressibility of gases is used for storing fluids and only neutral gases may be used, usually class 4.0 Nitrogen. They can save energy by using the accumulator as a storage device to accept pump output flow when system demand is low and supplement output when demand is high
  • Diaphragm accumulators from Olaer comprise low and high pressure diaphragm accumulators which are commonly used in mobile equipment and other applications where weight and space is a consideration.

Hydraulic diaphragm accumulator applications:

Diaphragm accumulators are hydro-pneumatic accumulators with a flexible diaphragm as a separation element between the compressible gas cushion and the operating fluid. They are designed as weld-type or as screw-type options and are available in various different steels and elastomers as well as different gas ports. They can be used for numerous applications including:

  • Energy storage for saving pump drive power
  • Energy reserve for emergencies
  • Compensation for losses due to leakage
  • Impact and vibration damping
  • Volume compensation
  • Suspension element on vehicles
  • Shock absorption in the case of mechanical impact

The benefits of using diaphragm accumulators:

  • Design optimised for function and weight
  • Choice of installation positions
  • No pressure differential between fluid side and gas side
  • Low-maintenance and long service life

Inspecting and testing your accumulators

HFT, a Bosch Rexroth Africa company, has an accumulation certification centre incorporating an accumulator test bench to help clients comply with regulations governing accumulator usage.

Accumulators are subjected to internal and external inspections as well as a hydrostatic pressure test and HFT is authorised to provide certification of manufacture and the verification signature of an Approved Inspection Authority.
