Bladder Accumulators

Bladder accumulators are hydro-pneumatic accumulators, which are flexible, filled with nitrogen and fitted with a steel pressure vessel. Bladder accumulators mix gas with stored hydraulic fluid to create the ideal fluid pressure.

Bladder Accumulators

  • Olaer bladder accumulators have a wide pressure range, adapt to different fluids and have elastomers with a very high grade of impermeability. They can be adapted to suit low and high temperatures, can be installed horizontally or vertically, and cannot be disassembled while under pressure. The range includes standard bladder accumulators as well as those designed for oil & gas, ASME and high pressure.
  • HYDAC bladder accumulators consist of either welded or forged pressure vessels, the accumulator bladder itself and the fittings for the gas-side and medium-side connection. They come in a standard design but special designs for particular applications, such as for very high discharge speeds and high pressure, are possible.
  • Bladder type accumulators from Bosch Rexroth are mounted with clamping collars and consoles, have maximum flow rates from 240 to 900 litres a minute and maximum operating pressure of 330 bar. Hydraulic fluid used is hydraulic oil according to DIN 51524, but other fluids are provided on request.

Bladder accumulator applications

  • Energy storage in order to save pump drive power in intermittent operation systems
  • Energy reserve for emergencies, e.g. upon failure of hydraulic pump
  • Compensation of leakage losses
  • Impact and vibration absorption in case of periodic vibrations
  • Volume compensation in case of pressure and temperature changes

The benefits of using bladder accumulators:

  • High discharge speeds
  • No pressure differential between fluid-side and gas-side
  • Compact, low-maintenance
  • High charging and discharge frequencies

Inspecting and testing your accumulators

Accumulators should be subjected to internal and external inspections and hydrostatic pressure tests.  Hytec Fluid Technology (HFT) has an accumulator Certification Centre incorporating an accumulator test bench to help clients comply with regulations governing accumulator usage. HFT is authorised to provide certification of manufacture and the verification signature of an Approved Inspection Authority.
